ACTION is an International Partnership of Civil Society Advocates

ACTION’s mission is to build support for increased resources for effective TB control, especially among key policymakers and other opinion leaders in both high TB burden countries and donor countries. With effective policy advocacy and greater political will, rapid progress can be made against the global TB epidemic.

RESULTS UK

Background: RESULTS UK was established in 1986 and is part of an international network of volunteers whose purpose is to generate the public and political will to end poverty.

Mission: To work at a grassroots, national and international level to create the political will to end hunger and the worst aspects of poverty.

RESULTS UK has been instrumental in working towards ACTION’s goals.

Given the dramatic need to deliver new and improved TB tools, RESULTS UK has been a leader in advocating for increased funds to research and development (R&D) from DfiD. By working to incorporate commitments to support TB R&D within DfID’s research strategy for 2008-2015 and educating MPs regarding the need to support TB R&D, RESULTS UK’s educational activities helped to secure an announcement of 18 million GBP over 5 years (2008-2013) from DfID to the Global Alliance for TB Drug Development on World TB Day
RESULTS UK has been a key organizer of the UK Coalition to Stop TB, serving as the Secretariat for the Coalition, and shaping and facilitating its key activities in 2009. In a short time, the UK Coalition has developed into a robust collective, with around 30 member organizations and six active working groups: Media, Research and New Tools, TB in the U.K., TB-HIV, Resource Mobilization, and Funding for the Coalition.
RESULTS UK was key in establishment of the first All-Party Parliamentary Group on Global Tuberculosis (APPG on Global TB). The APPG on Global TB is a cross-party Parliamentarian effort to address the growing scale and impact of the TB epidemic and reinforce the UK’s commitment to halting and reversing the incidence of TB worldwide.
