RESULTS Japan

ACTION is an International Partnership of Civil Society Advocates

ACTION’s mission is to build support for increased resources for effective TB control, especially among key policymakers and other opinion leaders in both high TB burden countries and donor countries. With effective policy advocacy and greater political will, rapid progress can be made against the global TB epidemic.

RESULTS Japan

Background: Established in 1989, RESULTS Japan is part of an international network of volunteers whose purpose is to generate the public and political will to end poverty.

Mission: To organize grassroots advocacy that is committed to creating the political will to end the worst aspects of poverty through education, public events, media coverage, educational trips, and research.

RESULTS Japan has been instrumental in working towards ACTION’s goals.

  1. Alongside the 2008 Japan-led G8, RESULTS Japan, with Japanese Diet Members and the Stop TB Japan Partnership, launched the Stop TB Japan Action Plan, securing the commitment of the government to work towards the goal of saving the lives of 160,000 TB patients a year, representing 10 percent of annual TB deaths globally.
  2. RESULTS Japan worked with ACTION partners in Kenya to push forward a Japanese International Cooperation Agency proposal to fund TB programs in Kenya — the first collaboration of this kind in Kenya.
  3. Due in large part to RESULTS Japan’s advocacy, Japan’s funding to multilateral institutions, excluding the Global Fund, increased by 35 percent.
