ACTION is an International Partnership of Civil Society Advocates
ACTION’s mission is to build support for increased resources for effective TB control, especially among key policymakers and other opinion leaders in both high TB burden countries and donor countries. With effective policy advocacy and greater political will, rapid progress can be made against the global TB epidemic.
Global Health Advocates India
Background: Established in September 2001, Global Health Advocates functions as a network of professionals from the private sector and NGO community focusing its activities in the areas of global advocacy and partnership building.
Mission: Coordinate social movement against AIDS, tuberculosis, malaria and other diseases of poverty.
GHA India has been instrumental in working towards ACTION’s goals.
- GHA India played a key technical support role in the development of India’s Round 9 Global Fund to Fight AIDS, TB and Malaria proposal, which was approved for a total of $199 million - the largest TB grant in India to date.
- GHA India developed an innovative tool, the “6Cs” of Political Commitment Scorecard, for local MPs and commissioners to self-assess their commitment to TB. These cards have been used secure greater political will in the fight against TB in India.
- For World TB Day and World AIDS Day, GHA India has led the advocacy efforts for TB. For World AIDS Day 2009, GHA India released the first part of the independent research report, TB/HIV Treatment Access Barriers, which filled a vital gap in TB-HIV research
